Perry Club are to set the river ablaze at Henley Royal Regatta

Blazers will ‘Create a rainbow of colour along the banks of the River Thames’ at Henley Royal Regatta this year (Lucy Waterlow, Daily Mail)

Blazers are as much a part of the regatta's history as the spectacle of the athletes on the water. The name ‘blazers’ was established in 1825 when the rowing club of St John’s College Cambridge ‘set the river ablaze’ with their bright red jackets, and the name stuck. Heritage and tradition play an integral part in Perry Club’s blazer production as the clubs bespoke cloth is woven in the club colours often matching the oar tips or the colours of the boathouse. 

 

The prestigious item of clothing is a symbol of the Henley Royal Regatta and other rowing competitions around the world. We look forward to viewing the many competitors, spectators and former oarsmen in their rowing blazers this year.

The Parmigiani Spirit Award – recognition of Rowing’s core values 

The Parmigiani Spirit Award will be presented to a University rower who has demonstrated the core values of rowing in their social, academic and sporting life. 

The award takes into consideration the core values of teamwork, fairness, natural, inclusive and enduring. Through these core values the rower also enabled or inspired exceptional success in other people's lives. Perry ensures these values are harnessed when creating a bespoke cloth specific to a team or club. Precision, coordination and elegance are qualities required in the sport of rowing, and are also an integral part of the service Perry Club provide their customers.

Head of The River Race, a spectacle not to be missed

The Head of The River Race on the Thames, a sporting spectacle second to none, takes place on Saturday March 29^th. Here is all you need to know!

·        The Head of the River Race (HoRR) was founded by Steve Fairbairn, the Cambridge and Tideway oarsman, the event was created in order to give crews something to aim for at the end of the winter training period.

·        It is rowed over the 4¼ mile Thames Championship Course from Mortlake to Putney

·        The first race was held in 1926 and 21 crews took part

·        The average time taken for the course used to be between 19 and 20 minutes but this has gradually decreased and the record is now 16 minutes, 37 seconds, set by the Great Britain national crew in 1987

·        In 1978, the total entry passed 400 for the first time, the organisers felt obliged for safety reasons to impose an overall limit of 420.

Perry Club’s collaboration with The Metropolitan Police

The Metropolitan Police RFC celebrate their 90th anniversary

The Metropolitan Police Rugby Club was formed in 1923 exactly a century after William Webb Ellis invented the game. The 70’s and 80’s saw the MPRFC playing teams that are now in the Premiership and the MPRFC today is fully committed to playing competitive rugby, supporting the wider community, and continuing to build on its long and proud history.

This year The Metropolitan Police rugby club celebrate their 90^th anniversary and will be visiting New York to play the first ever rugby match between The Metropolitan Police and the NYPD, the game is to be played in Central Park, New York City on the 12^th June 2014.  An important part of the planned 90^th anniversary celebrations is to raise funds for The Children’s Trust charity in the UK, and Hope for The Warriors in the USA.

Perry Club are delighted to be working with the MPRFC, the team will be sporting new Perry Club blazers in New York and at club events leading up to the tour. The blazers are all made-to-measure and feature a bespoke commissioned club badge on the breast pocket.

Of the collaboration, Hatty Scaramanga, Brand manager of Perry Club comments, ‘The rugby club is the heart of the community and it is our pleasure to dress the MPRFC off-duty, and for club occasions."

Perry are proud to work with the young talent of Durham School Boat Club

Durham Boat club was founded in 1847 and is host to an array of talented individuals. Pupils have gone on to represent Great Britain at Junior, University and Senior World Championships, Commonwealth and Olympic Regattas.

In the last few seasons crews from the school have raced at Mens and Womens Head, won medals at National Schools, National Championships, and gained GB selection for the Junior Worlds. 

Coaches are staff, parents and rowers in their own right, with British Rowing coaching qualifications, International rowing and coaching experience.

We wish Durham all the best this season and look forward to the Durham regatta on the 14th & 15th June 2014 where the pupils will undoubtedly put on an impressive performance.
