The Regimental Stripe

With images and extracts from ‘The Classics of Derrick Rose’ we introduce to you the history of the regimental stripe and the significance of stripes to Perry Club.

The regimental stripe originates from the war where soldiers needed to identify each other in the dust and smoke of the battlefields. Since the 1880s British soldiers have proudly worn their regimental stripes on their neck ties when not in service. In the present day the regimental stripes signify membership in private schools and clubs to define the wearer’s identity and status.

Traditionally the regimental stripes adorned the neckties of the British gentry, yet in 1920 British tailor Brookes Brothers extended the stripes to clothing, this created a trend that soon became a defining aspect of the Ivy League style.

Whether worn as a blazer, neck tie or flamboyant accessory, a regimental stripe signals an appreciation for traditional and timeless style. ‘The modern gentleman may embrace new fabrics and designs, but he always remembers the origins of elegant dress’ The Classics of Derrick Rose’
