The rowing elite are captured in their element

We thought we’d share with you this insert from fashion photographer of preppy subculture, F.E Castleberry.

For the past six months I’ve been meandering around New England photographing prominent rowers. I’m honored and privileged to be surrounded by world class athletes, Olympic gold medalists and record holders. I find a true elite gathering of rowers who celebrate the sport of crew by way of the storied rowing blazer. Here are some snapshots of Amsterdam Student Rowing Club Nereus at the Head of the Charles Regatta. Their blazers were beautiful, with some wearing the sweat and tears by which they earned them literally on their sleeves. A couple of the jackets were at least 40 years old. The student rowing club was founded in 1885 and produces a substantial part of the national team as well as Olympic medal winning athletes.

Perry's partenership with dedicated athletes

“The teams we form partnerships with constantly strive to do well and our blazers must reflect this ambition.” Perry Club.

Club rowers will be training as usual in the run up to Christmas, this means alot of steady mileage in rain, wind, fog and snow, not to mention avoiding ice on the water.  It’s hard to motivate yourself when the sun hasn’t risen and the weather’s freezing! It's this type of dedication to a club that shows the true colours of athletes, coaches and coxes.

Celebrate that effort and the club you’re proud of with a Christmas present to match.  A Perry blazer in your club colours.  Join the many rowing clubs sporting Perry’s blazers – perfect for club occasions and every day wear.
Why Perry?  Because our blazers are made-to-measure with your rowing club's bespoke club crest on the breast pocket celebrating the heritage and pride of your organisation. Perry blazers reflect contemporary styling combined with traditional values of British craftsmanship and are all made in Leeds, the home of Yorkshire textiles.

One of Rugby Union’s most anticipated fixtures of the season unveils the pride of a nation

'The Greatest Challenge in Rugby' kicks of at Twickenham this weekend

Tipped by the Daily Telegraph as “the greatest challenge in rugby” the mighty All Blacks arrive to test England’s credentials this Saturday. Their players are some of the best in the world and determined to control the game.  Kieran Read, widely regarded as the world’s best No 8, explained: “Every time I go on the field, I’m looking to be the man who is the key factor in the game, who can make a big play or whatever is needed. I want to do my bit.”

What England will need, then, is nerve, poise and great teamwork. This will-to-win culture is fostered at grass roots level amongst England’s many rugby clubs.  Whether a team member or supporter, one of the best ways to nurture dedication to a team is through wearing the club colours with pride. The care with which our blazers are designed for our rugby club customers is emblematic of the values of those who wear them. Juddians Rugby Club commissioned bespoke blazers in its distinct club colours with carefully chosen gilt buttons.  Equally proud of their blazers are members of Northampton Saints, delighted with the attention to detail we have taken with vents, buttons and pockets.

All this helps to create a determined mindset, as Owen Farrell, the England fly-half, revealed.  The prospect of facing his opposite number, the great Dan Carter, on Saturday is inspiring rather than intimidating. “There is no point sitting back and being in awe of what he has done,” Farrell said. “You have got to go out and perform yourself. You have got to be excited about it.”

Financial Times unveil Perry’s part in the revived Yorkshire textile industry

“Mills hum to high-end order book” is the headline in a news story in the Financial Times today.  It records the resurgent textile industry of Yorkshire in which Perry Uniform and Perry Club play a prominent part.  What the FT calls “the power of heritage” has been the key to success as local textiles and clothing manufacturers appeal to the premium end of the market, a marketplace that appreciates the authenticity and history of the Yorkshire textile industry.  Perry Uniform and Perry Club are at the forefront of this trend.  The two brands are growing strongly, Perry was recently crowned Yorkshire Post Manufacturer of the Year 2013 and Bernard Bunting MD of Perry notes that the future looks bright

The FT highlights Perry Club clients such as the Caribbean Cricket Club and Rugby Union clubs noting how effectively we have used the internet to find export markets.  “We have gone from a shop window looking out on Armley jail to a shop window looking out on the world,” said Mr Bunting.

Perry Win Yorkshire Post’s UK Manufacturer of the Year award 2013

Perry is delighted to have been awarded Yorkshire Post’s Manufacturer of the Year at the region’s top business awards ceremony, ‘The Business Oscars’.

The awards recognise companies that continue to grow and innovate, whatever the state of the economy. They further acknowledge and celebrate the strength and diversity of Yorkshire manufacturing.

A new report claims that manufacturing textiles and clothing in the UK is once again commercially viable, the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Vince Cable has lent his support to the UK textile manufacturing sector, saying he believes there is huge potential for the industry.

“There is scope for a manufacturing revival,” said Cable. “I sense that coming back, and we must encourage young people to visit factories to see it is not like their perceptions and realise they could build a career in manufacturing.”

Perry believes wholeheartedly in harnessing young talent and teaching the skill sets of textile manufacturing to aspiring young businessmen and women. Perry provides apprentice schemes, school visits and work experience with interns often landing themselves future job roles within the company.
Perry has been manufacturing quality products for over 65 years and is in full support of this resurgence within the UK.

‘Design, woven and manufactured in Leeds, our blazers continue Yorkshire’s long heritage of wool production and we encourage them to consider our industry as a real career option" said Bernard Bunting.

Blazers score success in the Cape

Dan Jagessar of Enfield Ignatians wears the tour blazer

This month Rugby World celebrates Enfield Ignatians South African tour last summer.

Enfield Ignatians from the London Two North East league feature in Rugby World in November celebrating their successful 10-day “Big Tour” to South Africa in July and August.  They showed a strong team spirit and pride in their club reflected in their bespoke Perry club blazers, worn here by club member Dan Jagessar.

And team success followed in the Cape.  They played and won six matches. Club president Martin Baker called the tour: “a great bonding experience.”  As well as playing in Durban and Cape Town the 63 club members took time out to visit Table Mountain and Robben Island.

A Facebook campaign was launched in 2012 to encourage club members to submit ideas for the Big Tour kit for South Africa.  Designing the blazers was an important part of this as they were worn to represent the club and its heritage at functions and for travelling in the country.  The tailored woollen blazers, in blue and gold, sported the traditional club badge of Enfield Ignatians RFC which has symbolised the club’s values since 1949.  Perry manufactured the blazers to the individual specification of each tour member even including their initials on the inside pocket – as Dan is showing in the photo.  Martin was delighted with the result commenting on how impressive the blazers were.

One of the benefits of Perry’s bespoke experience in design is that it knows how to include individuality without compromising an established uniform.  Enfield wanted a badge identity that was recognizably Ignatians, but with a South African “twist” to differentiate it from its usual club kit.  This was perfectly achieved by adding the name of the tour in embroidery beneath the badge.

Perry’s origins in Lonely Planet's top 3 places to visit in the World

Yorkshire is the third best region in the world to visit in 2014, according to travel guide company Lonely Planet. In its new Best in Travel 2014 publication, Lonely Planet says: “If the good people of Yorkshire were proud of their heritage before, the 2012 London Olympics only served to cement what they have always thought: that their county is better than , and really the best of  all the English counties. In a list of the top ten regions around the globe, Yorkshire was placed only below the hotly tipped and up-and-coming mountainous area of Sikkim in India and the beautiful barren landscape of The Kimberley on the Western Australian coast. One of the highlighted attractions to visit within Yorkshire is the Armley Mills, where Perry originated in 1946, and still situated today close to its original foundations . Leeds Industrial Museum houses a wealth of gems located in a beautiful riverside setting. Step back in time to learn about the industrial history of Leeds manufacturing textiles and see where your club blazers originated.
