The Village Greenies and Heineken - A match made in Cayman

What do The Village Greenies and Heineken have in common?

The Village Greenies is one of the oldest Cricket Clubs in the Cayman Islands and Perry has a long standing relationship with the club we can only describe as ‘full of life’. The Greenies Blazer matches their colour scheme which is derived from the Heineken beer bottle. The Club was founded in 1974 and the name is based on the famous green bottle, known in Cayman as a ‘Greenie’. Heineken is now the official beer of the Village Greenies Cricket Club and often drunk before, during and after the match.

Mainly an expatriate’s side The Greenies are determined to enjoy their weekend games in the heat of the tropics and replace some of the liquid expended during the match by the consumption of beer.

‘While the Greenies always give their best, we are big believers in playing by the spirit of the game before worrying about winning. Old and new members alike, we always look forward with great enthusiasm to our games whether at home or on tour, and getting stuck into a few greenies or pints of bitter with the lads after the games is more than any Greenie can ask for.’
