BUCS and Scottish Varsity Champions 2014 – University of St Andrews RFC

What a season for The University of St Andrews RFC! Not only BUCS Champions, they are also the Scottish Varsity Champions, winning the oldest varsity match in the world.

Every Year the Scottish Varsity match between Scotland’s two oldest Universities takes place in London. The historical fixture between University of St Andrews and the University of Edinburgh dates back 150 years, the match predates the annual Oxford versus Cambridge Varsity match played at Twickenham.

The victory was preceded by a dinner attended by her Royal Highness Princess Anne, Edinburgh University Chancellor and patron to London Scottish, at the Caledonian Club in London.

Congratulations to St Andrews University RFC  seen here in their Perry Blazers.

Perry Club are to set the river ablaze at Henley Royal Regatta

Blazers will ‘Create a rainbow of colour along the banks of the River Thames’ at Henley Royal Regatta this year (Lucy Waterlow, Daily Mail)

Blazers are as much a part of the regatta's history as the spectacle of the athletes on the water. The name ‘blazers’ was established in 1825 when the rowing club of St John’s College Cambridge ‘set the river ablaze’ with their bright red jackets, and the name stuck. Heritage and tradition play an integral part in Perry Club’s blazer production as the clubs bespoke cloth is woven in the club colours often matching the oar tips or the colours of the boathouse.

The prestigious item of clothing is a symbol of the Henley Royal Regatta and other rowing competitions around the world. We look forward to viewing the many competitors, spectators and former oarsmen in their rowing blazers this year.

Keep an eye out for Henley updates on our Facebook page and visit www.perryclub.co.uk for unique rowing blazer designs.
